🌉 VocabBridge Privacy Policy

VocabBridge is a Chrome extension that helps non-native English speakers understand words and phrases while browsing the web. This privacy policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we protect it.

      Short version: We collect only what we need to run the 
      service. We never sell your data. You can delete your data anytime by 
      emailing us.
    

1. Who We Are

2. What Data We Collect

For registered users (free and pro accounts):

Email address — used for login and account management
Full name — provided during signup, used for display only
Approximate country — detected from your device timezone, used for analytics only
Words and phrases you highlight — stored to enforce daily usage limits and show your history
Page URL where you request an explanation — sent to AI only to provide better context for the explanation. Not stored permanently.
Timestamp of each explanation — used to count daily usage
Pro status — whether you have a paid subscription

For guest users (no account):

A randomly generated guest ID — stored in your browser only, used to enforce the 5 explanations per day guest limit
Words and phrases you highlight — stored temporarily to enforce daily limits
Page URL — sent to AI for context only, not stored permanently

3. What We Do NOT Collect

We do not read or store your full browsing history
We do not collect passwords (handled securely by Supabase Auth)
We do not collect payment information (handled by Lemon Squeezy)
We do not use advertising trackers or third-party analytics
We do not access any webpage content other than the text you deliberately highlight and choose to explain

4. How We Use Your Data

To provide English explanations using AI
To enforce daily usage limits (guest: 5/day, free: 10/day, pro: unlimited)
To show your explanation history inside the extension
To understand which countries our users come from (aggregate analytics only)
To manage your account and subscription status

5. How Long We Store Your Data

Usage logs (words looked up) — kept for up to 90 days, then automatically deleted
Account data — kept until you delete your account
Guest ID — stored in your browser only, cleared if you uninstall the extension
Page URLs — never stored in our database, only sent temporarily to the AI during the explanation request

6. Third Party Services We Use

Supabase — database and authentication. Data stored on secure servers. Supabase Privacy Policy
Third-party Large Language Models (LLMs) — generates English explanations. Only the highlighted text and page URL are sent.
Lemon Squeezy — payment processing for Pro subscriptions. We never see your payment details. Lemon Squeezy Privacy Policy

7. Data Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your data including:

All API keys and secrets stored securely in server environment variables — never in the extension code
All data transmitted over HTTPS encrypted connections
Row Level Security (RLS) enabled on our database — users can only access their own data
Authentication handled by Supabase Auth with industry standard JWT tokens

However, no system is 100% secure. By using VocabBridge you accept that data transmission over the internet carries inherent risk.

8. Children's Privacy

VocabBridge is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us at mansaracampus@gmail.com and we will delete it promptly.

9. Your Rights

You have the right to:

Access the data we hold about you
Request correction of incorrect data
Request deletion of your account and all associated data
Stop using the extension at any time by uninstalling it

10. Cookies

VocabBridge does not use cookies. We use Chrome's built-in storage (chrome.storage.sync and chrome.storage.local) to save your login token and explanation history locally on your device.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect any changes. Continued use of VocabBridge after changes means you accept the updated policy.
